Sharni’s occasional solo practice considers itself a post-production approach to space, by likening the designer to editor. She utilises the act of location scouting to observe and inhabit transitional sites in our streetscapes, and the tools of video to produce experimental moving image work within and around them.

An intentional interior positioning - both in/site and on/screen - allows this techne labour to be offered up as travelogues for the viewer. These channels of detournement re-examine notions of authorship, working within the potential ‘value’ a designer can access and extract from the existing, to create a new set of spatial relations.

EXHIBITIONS & SCREENINGS

2022,
Video Artist within Group Show ‘all this noise’
at Blindside ARI.

Featuring:
Geoff Robinson,
Sara Retallick,
Tamil Rogeon,
and Sharni Hodge (with sound by Daniel Tucceri).

The exhibition was curated by James Carey. “All this noise brings together four Naarm/Melbourne based artists who work with the medium of sound in their practices. Considering our collective times, all this noise explores the myriad of visual, [un]informative, and political noise[s] in our contemporary societies. Presented both aurally and visually, the works in all this noise fold, amplify, and collapse these collective times into further temporalities.”

2020,
Video Artist within Group show ‘[becoming indeterminate]’
at Blindside ARI & Satellite Outdoor Screens.

Featuring:
Mitch Goodwin,
Nicholas Rebstadt,
Eugenia Lim,
Joe Hamilton
and Sharni Hodge (with sound by Henry Pyne).

The exhibition was curated by James Carey and began with a text by Abbra Kotlarczyk.“A collection of filmic works that explored the notions of bodies, materials, interiors and public[ness] in temporal states of [in]determinate becoming. The films produced suggest an immediate awareness of temporal life; that we are immersed in time as flow and that the residues of our lived processes are collections of materialised and spatialised time.”
